Tickets still available for Theatre By the Bay’s innovative augmented reality show Ghost Watchers

Augmented reality ghost walk takes about 90 minutes

Theatre By the Bay has given live performances a high-tech, pandemic-era spin by bringing performers to the audience via augmented reality.

Ghost Watchers is an innovative new production by the local theatre company, designed with physical distancing in mind, and using the audience’s own smart devices as a stage. Participants are guided through Barrie’s downtown to specific markers and, using their device and a QR code, can view a performer, or “ghost” as if they were centre stage.

The show loops around Barrie’s downtown core, beginning at Heritage Park and ending at Memorial Square. The show will take about 90 minutes. Try out the QR code below to test your device’s compatibility and for an example of the show.

There are performances of Ghost Watchers daily, and tickets are available through the Theatre By The Bay website. Participants are urged to bring a fully-charged smartphone with a data plan, headphones or earbuds, as well as comfortable shoes.

Theatre By the Bay partnered with Tourism Barrie to bring this show to life, pun intended.
