Craig Berube is out of a job with the Maple Leafs.

Toronto fired its head coach this morning after two seasons in charge.

The move comes on the heels of the Original Six franchise missing the playoffs for the first time in a decade and follows the March dismissal of general manager Brad Treliving.

New GM John Chayka says the decision was tied to an organizational reset and a desire for a fresh start, while praising Berube’s leadership and professionalism.

Berube guided the team to a first-place finish in the Atlantic Division a year ago, but also oversaw its largest year-over-year points decline — from 108 to 78 — in a disastrous sophomore campaign.

The Maple Leafs finished last in the division standings this past season after entering the campaign with Stanley Cup expectations despite the loss of star winger Mitch Marner.
