Toronto's police chief says an officer who was shot in the city today has serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Chief Myron Demkiw says he was at the hospital tonight to support the officer and his family, and says the shooting is a reminder of the risks police face every day.
The shooting took place around 5:30 p.m. in the city's bustling midtown area after officers stopped a vehicle while conducting an investigation.
Police said an officer discharged a firearm at the scene, which was near Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue.
They said one person was arrested at the scene and another suspect was still at large.
The province's police watchdog is now investigating.
