Five people escaped flames in a house fire on Casserley Crescent in Tottenham.
Emergency crews responded to the blaze around 7:30 on Thursday evening.
"The cause of the fire was determined to be a candle that ignited a drape covering a window in the basement and it is not considered to be suspicious," OPP stated in a media release.
Police added that the family will be staying with friends temporarily as there was severe smoke damage and flooding in the basement.
