Residents driving along Big Bay Point Road can expect delays starting July 23, as the City of Barrie launches a major infrastructure project aimed at strengthening local water services.
The Big Bay Point Road Watermain Lining Project, which stretches between Bayview Drive and Huronia Road, will line an existing large watermain in the area. City officials say the upgrade is part of a proactive infrastructure strategy designed to reinforce the system and prevent long-term issues.
Construction is expected to be completed by December. During that time, traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction; however, roads will remain open, and pedestrian access will be maintained. Emergency vehicles will continue to have full access.
What Drivers and Cyclists Should Know
- The north side cycling lane (westbound) will be closed, while the south side (eastbound) will remain open.
- Left turns will be prohibited from Big Bay Point Road at Welham Road.
- Property access will still be available, but only right turns will be permitted when exiting.
- Parking will not be allowed in active construction zones.
Transit Changes Barrie Transit users will see temporary route adjustments. Route 12 will detour, and stops 674 and 803 (TOD-D) will be temporarily out of service. Replacement stops will be set up nearby. Riders can find updated information at myridebarrie.ca/news.
