During a traffic stop on Dunlop Street in Barrie over the weekend, police say they seized a "significant quantity" of fentanyl.
On Sunday just before 11:00 a.m., officers say a pickup truck was stopped after it was determined the registered owner was a suspended driver.
Police say once they spoke with the motorist, they learned he had a condition on his driver’s licence requiring him to operate a vehicle that was equipped with an ignition interlock device - which he did not have. He was arrested for operating while prohibited and impaired operation.
Prior to leaving, officers say they located a large amount of what was believed to be fentanyl. A male passenger was also arrested for being in possession of what was believed to be cocaine and methamphetamine.
Both men were transported to police headquarters where the investigation continued.
Police say the passenger, a 35-year-old from Innisfil, was released from custody just before noon and was charged with two counts of possession of a schedule 1 substance (cocaine and methamphetamine).
The driver, a 33-year-old from Barrie, faces the following charges:
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking - fentanyl
- Possession of a schedule 1 substance - fentanyl
- Impaired operation
- Operation while prohibited
Both men are scheduled to appear in Barrie court on March 22.
