There is no word on whether heaven and earth were moved to make it happen.

The City of Barrie confirmed on Tuesday that a new transitional housing project will be built at 300 Mapleview Drive, near Essa Road, on the property of Mapleview Community Church (MCC).

"Every person deserves a safe and stable place to call home," said Mayor Alex Nuttall. "This project provides more than shelter--it offers hope and security to those who need it most. It represents a vital step toward building a stronger and safer Barrie."

The project, in partnership with the city and Hollyhomes Corp, a non-profit housing provider, will see the construction of a three-storey building containing 31 bachelor units, including five accessible units, along with wraparound services including mental health support, job readiness programs, and spiritual care.

Nuttall says one of the things he has heard around town is if there can be more support, but don't have everything concentrated downtown.

"What you're seeing today is an investment in those supports outside of the downtown, and I believe in a place that cares for individuals."

The project includes a commitment to maintain affordability for a minimum of 25 years.

The development will cost between $5.5 million to $6 million to build, and just over $3 million will come from the city's community improvement plan (CIP) in per-door grant funding.

The church will fundraise for the development and be responsible for its operational costs, according to MCC pastor Jay Davis.

"This project is more than just housing--it's about hope, dignity, and compassion. As a church, we are called to serve our community and meet people where they are. This transitional housing initiative reflects our commitment to walking alongside those in need, helping them take steps toward healing, stability, and permanent housing."
