Transmission troubles could have F-150 owners lurching forward
Some models may downshift suddenly
Transmission troubles have prompted Ford to recall more than a million F-150 pickup trucks in North America – 221-thousand of them in Canada.
The problem is with the six-speed transmission in 2011 to 2013 models – they can downshift suddenly to first gear.
There have been five incidents related to this, including one that resulted in a whiplash injury.
Ford will be sending out notices to owners in March about getting in to update the powertrain control software to fix the problem.
The F-Series pickup is the top-selling vehicle in both Canada and United States.
