A visit to Canada by NATO's secretary-general ended with the prime minister touting his government's investments in defending the Arctic.
Justin Trudeau says European allies will also benefit from Canada's work, both alone and with the United States, in bolstering North American security.
His remarks came during a joint news conference with Jens (yenz) Stoltenberg at C-F-B Cold Lake, Alberta.
Throughout the two-day trip, Trudeau highlighted his government's promises to invest billions of dollars in new military equipment and capabilities.
Stoltenberg appeared more than ready to accept Trudeau’s message, saying what happens in Canada "matters for the whole alliance."
In a separate interview with The Canadian Press, the NATO leader continued his push for Canada to reach the NATO target of spending two per cent of its G-D-P on defence.
Canada spent 1.32 per cent of G-D-P on defence in the last fiscal year -- close to the bottom of the 30-member alliance.
