Two high milers nabbed in a 30-minute span on Highway 26

Police services across the country are marking Canada Road Safety Week

Ontario Provincial Police have charged two motorists with stunt driving and speeding after they were pulled over 30-minutes apart on Highway 26 in a posted 80 km/h zone in Clearview Township and in Springwater Township.

A 40-year-old G2 driver from Orillia was clocked at 138 km/h. A 36-year-old motorist from Wasaga Beach was caught travelling 148 km/h.

This comes as police services mark Canada Road Safety Week (CRSW)

There have been 15 lives lost on OPP Central Region patrolled roads in 2021.

OPP Sgt. Jason Folz said CRSW focuses on behaviours that put drivers, passengers, pedestrians and other vulnerable road users at risk including the so-called big four for injury and death on are roads:

  • impaired driving
  • distracted driving
  • excessive speed or aggressive driving
  • lack of seat belt use
