The province has handed down details of a new handy verification app to scan its recently announced enhanced vaccine certificate.
Verify Ontario is a made-in-Canada app that allows businesses to scan the QR code on the enhanced certificate. It works on Apple devices running iOS 11 and up, along with Android 6+. Businesses and organizations that require proof of vaccination can download the free app through the Apple App Store or Google Play stores and can be used without an internet connection.
Verify Ontario is available to all businesses and organizations as of Friday, October 15, at 12:01 a.m.
The app scans government-issued QR codes that have either been printed on paper or saved to a smartphone. It does not store personal information. Patrons will have to show a piece of photo identification along with their QR code to verify their ID.
The enhanced vaccine certificate with QR code only contains essential information and doesn’t include your health card number. The code contains the Ontario and Canada logo and can be either printed or stored on your phone. The QR code allows it to be quickly scanned by businesses using the Verify Ontario app.
The vaccine certificates currently in use remain valid and businesses must accept them as proof of vaccination.
