OPP marine officers in the Midland area are getting a head start on the long weekend.

They've been checking boaters to ensure they have safety equipment on board, and that it is in good working order.

They checked 60 vessels last week, citing one operator for not having enough life jackets, two were charged under the Canada Shipping Act, and 16 were issued warnings.

If you see a possible impaired operator "Make the Call" and dial 911 and help prevent a marine tragedy.
