York Regional Police on Friday released video of a carjacking that occurred in Markham on Tuesday and the arrest of several suspects.
Police say the carjacking happened in a parking lot of a mall in the area of McCowan Road and Highway 7.
"The victim was loading items into their vehicle when they were approached by two male suspects. The suspects were dropped off by a third suspect driving a white Nissan Rogue sport utility vehicle (SUV). The suspects demanded the keys and fled in the victim’s white Mercedes G-Wagon SUV," according to a police news release.
The victim did not sustain any injuries.
The York Regional Police helicopter was called in to assist with the investigation and located the victim's vehicle in a plaza, in the area of Dufferin Street and Clark Avenue in Vaughan. Two men were observed hiding in a nearby wooded area and were taken into custody, police said.
The victim's vehicle was recovered.
On Wednesday, a third suspect, believed to be operating the Nissan SUV at the time of the carjacking, was arrested in Toronto. Police said the Nissan was recovered and turned out to be stolen from York Region.
The suspects are aged 20, 31 and 32, and from Toronto.
They are facing charges of robbery and other offences. Investigators believe the trio have been involved in other carjackings.
At the time of the offence, two of the suspects were on bail conditions for unrelated charges. Each of them have been charged with breach of probation.
