Barrie police have issued an arrest warrant for a 30-year-old man of no fixed address after officers responded to a pair of calls Thursday afternoon about a person waving a knife downtown.
Just after 4:30 p.m., police received a report of a male waving a knife in a dangerous manner in the area of Dunlop Street East, just west of Meridian Place.
Thanks to a detailed description of the suspect, police were able to find and detain him, but no knife was located, there was no known complainant, and as a result, he was released.
"A short time later, a witness approached police and shared a video with them that clearly showed the male suspect waving the knife dangerously at a number of people, and in particular, a male who was wearing a yellow shirt," police stated in a news release.
Despite efforts to locate the individual, he was able to elude police.
"His details have been shared with officers who work in the downtown area and an arrest is expected in the near future," police added.
Investigators say although this appears to be an isolated incident, police thank the person who initially called in details about the incident and to the second individual who shared their video with responding officers.
