Wasaga Beach man facing charges after attack dog unleashed on firefighters on the job

Dog was shot by police, receiving treatment in Newmarket

A local man is facing charges while his dog is getting treatment after a bizarre occurrence during the fighting of a fire in Wasaga Beach.

Firefighters were tackling a blaze on River Road around 5:30 Friday morning, but while on scene, police say a man was interfering with their efforts. Officers say the man released a dog to attack emergency crews.

An officer shot the dog, who was first taken to a Barrie vet, then to Newmarket where it is said the animal continued to receive treatment.

Meanwhile, a 57-year-old man is facing charges including assaulting an officer with a weapon and uttering death threats.
