
Huronia West and Nottawasaga OPP have partnered to conduct joint Festive RIDE checks, which showed success on Tuesday.
Checks in Wasaga Beach, Springwater, and Essa took place, which resulted in two arrests for impaired driving, both Wasaga Beach residents. The initiative is part of the province-wide Festive RIDE campaign, aimed at promoting increased road safety during the holiday season.
A 32-year-old man from was charged with impaired driving and having cannabis readily available in the vehicle. Meanwhile, a 40-year-old woman was charged with impaired driving and refusal to comply with demand. Both accused are set to appear in court in Collingwood on January 27.
"By joining forces, officers reinforced their commitment to reducing impaired driving and ensuring everyone gets home safely," Huronia West OPP said in a news release. "Officers engaged with motorists, conducted RIDE checks, and reminded drivers that safe driving saves lives."
The OPP says during the campaign, which runs until New Year's Day, motorists can expect an increased police presence as officers conduct RIDE initiatives around the clock, seven days a week, across the province.
