Waypoint Welcomes New Psychiatrist-in-Chief

Dr Nadiya Sunderji known internationally for her work in collaborative care quality improvement and education

Following an extensive search, Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care in Penetanguishene has announced the appointment of Dr Nadiya Sunderji as the hospital’s new Psychiatrist-in-Chief.

Dr Sunderji earned her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Western Ontario, London and her residency in Psychiatry at the University of Toronto in 2008. She comes to Waypoint from St. Michael’s Hospital where she served as the Medical Director, Quality, Mental Health and Addictions Service, a consulting psychiatrist with the Academic Family Health Team, a psychiatrist in the Mental Health and Addictions Service and an Associate Scientist at the hospital’s Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute.

The Waypoint Board of Governors feels Dr Sunderji’s diverse clinical experience and academic expertise will support the centre’s leadership role in mental health and addictions system planning in the North Simcoe Muskoka LHIN.

Dr Sunderji has been conducting research and quality improvement to improve the implementation of integrated collaborative mental health care in primary care settings.

She has received international and national recognition for her leadership and research in collaborative care quality improvement and education. She has lectured internationally and is the author and co-author of numerous publications focused on integrated care, leading her to be a sought after mentor.

Dr. Sunderji will commence her position and join the senior leadership team at Waypoint on February 4th, 2019.
