Weapons call in north Orillia

Witnesses reported a person that appeared to have a gun

A man faces firearm charges following a standoff with police in Orillia.

Around 12:45 p.m. on Monday, officers were called to a townhouse on West Street North near Fittons Road West after witnesses saw a person brandish what appeared to be a gun. The individual directed comments at the witnesses and ran into a nearby residence.

The OPP Emergency Response Team, the Tactics and Rescue Unit, and the Canine Unit surrounded the townhouse, and after several hours a person was taken into custody.

A 31-year-old Orillia man has been charged with the following:

·        Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose

·        Pointing a Firearm - two counts

The suspect was held for a bail hearing.
