Barrie police have charged a man after they received information on Sunday night that an unknown person pointed a firearm and threatened an adult male and a youth while they were walking on a catwalk that leads to Willow Landing Public School from Pickett Crescent, in the area of Big Bay Point Road and Huronia Road.

Authorities received a description of the suspect, and shortly after 9:30 p.m., about an hour after the alleged incident, police said he was located in the parking lot of a nearby plaza at the northwest corner of Big Bay Point Road and Leggott Avenue.

At the time of his arrest, an airsoft firearm was seized, police said.

A 40-year-old from Barrie has been charged with:

  • Utter Threats to Cause Death
  • Pointing a Firearm
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Person
  • Use Imitation Firearm in Commission of Indictable Offence
  • Carrying a Concealed Weapon.

He has been held in custody and is scheduled to appear Monday by video for a bail hearing.
