Recycling Changes, World Junior Dreams, Coldest Night Expansion & Top Chef Returns

What Barrie's Talking About Podcast

Welcome back to What Barrie’s Talking About, the weekly podcast that brings you the stories shaping our city and the voices behind them. This week, we’re diving into everything from new recycling rules to world-class hockey dreams, community support initiatives, and one of Barrie’s most delicious annual events.

Check out this week's episode here:

New Recycling Rules Coming in January

Big changes are coming to curbside recycling in the new year, including a new collector and a longer list of items that can be tossed into your blue bin.

To help make sense of what’s changing and why, Barrie 360’s Ian Maclennan speaks with Allen Langdon, CEO of Circular Materials. He breaks down what residents need to know before the updates roll out, and how the new system aims to simplify recycling across Ontario.

Two Barrie Colts Invited to Team Canada Tryouts

The Barrie Colts continue to dominate, stacking up a pair of big road wins last weekend — but the even bigger news? Two Colts players have been invited to Team Canada’s World Junior selection camp.

Barrie 360’s Julius Hern checks in with Colts broadcaster and writer Gene Pereira to talk about the team’s momentum, who’s turning heads, and what this opportunity means for the young stars hoping to wear the Maple Leaf.

Coldest Night of the Year Expands to Innisfil

The Coldest Night of the Year walk is a familiar fundraiser in Barrie, but in 2026, the event will officially debut in Innisfil.

Ian Maclennan is joined by Amanda Fellows, Manager of Community Programs for CFS, to explain why the expansion matters, how the walk supports people experiencing hurt and homelessness, and how you can get involved locally.

Top Chef Barrie Returns

If your tastebuds are already buzzing, you’re not alone. Top Chef Barrie returns this January, and it’s always one of the city’s most sought-after events.

Ian Maclennan catches up with Chef Randy Feltis and the ever-enthusiastic Peggy Hill to talk food, creativity, community, and why tickets sell out fast every single year.
