What Barrie's Talking About This Week
1) Hometown Draft To PWHL
This week we had a chance to catch up with Jessie Eldridge who was chosen by the New York franchise in the third round of the Professional Women's Hockey League draft. Eldridge was joined by her father, Duane, who coaches the Barrie Junior Sharks under 22 elite team.
2) Mayoral Update
Mayor Alex Nuttal stopped in to chat with Ian MacLennan about the warming and cooling centres in Barrie and what was learned at a recent City Hall committee meeting about the homeless situation and how it's impacting the city, especially Downtown. He also gave us an update on the new inclusive playground in Painswick.
3) 2024 Gilda's Place Raw & Reflective Calendar
The 2024 edition of Gilda's Place Raw and Reflective calendar is out. It's one of the biggest sources of funding for some unique programs to help those living with cancer.
4) Colts Update
Will Konken sits down with Colt's colour man and writer Gene Pereira to get his insights on the Colts in advance of the new season, which starts tonight. The Colts will be playing their first game at home against the North Bay Battalion.
5) It's Push The Button Day
Today is Test Your Smoke Alarm day. This is not a new initiative, but it's a new take with a specific day.
