South Simcoe Police have issued an arrest warrant for a 40-year-old woman they say took her daughter to Russia with plans to visit family and did not return.
Police say their investigation began in March into a reported child abduction involving an infant who had been residing in Innisfil with both parents.
"The father of the infant reported that the child's mother had taken their daughter to Russia, with plans to visit family," police said in a news release on Monday.
Through an investigation, police say the mother did not attempt to return to Canada with the infant.

As the investigation continued, the father initiated court proceedings in Canada and obtained a court order authorized by a family court judge that compelled the mother to return the infant to Canada and into the care of her father. The mother did not appear at any of the court proceedings in Canada, according to police, and did not comply with the court order.
As a result, police have charged the mother with abduction in contravention of a custody or parenting order and disobeying a court order.
