Woman found dead in Lake Simcoe identified by police

At the time of her disappearance, the woman was living in Oakville

York Regional Police confirm the body of a woman recovered from Lake Simcoe in Georgina last August has been identified as a 59-year-old South Korean citizen who went missing in 2018.

Police found the body floating in the water by the docks near Lake Drive North on Aug. 29, 2020.

Investigators said the woman was dressed for cold weather when her body was located.

In October, in an attempt to identify her, police released photos of the jewellery and clothing the woman was wearing.

Police said on Friday the woman is Soo Jin Ju, and her death has been confirmed as a murder.

Investigators said Ju was reported missing from Toronto in February 2018. She was last seen near Finch Avenue and Yonge Street. Ju was living in Oakville at the time of her disappearance.

While in Canada, she used other names including Soo Hyun Kim, Su Yeon Kim, and Bo Kyung Joo, according to police.

Investigators are appealing to anyone who knew Ju or has information in relation to her disappearance or murder to contact the homicide unit.
