Woman on floatie in Georgian Bay rescued by Huronia West OPP Marine Unit

Woman was charged with failing to have a personal flotation device

An off-shore breeze, no life jacket, no phone, no safety equipment, and struggling to get back to shore until the Huronia West OPP Marine Unit plucked a woman to safety from Georgian Bay in Wasaga Beach.

Police say the marine unit was on regular patrol along Beach Area 2 around 2:30 pm on Monday afternoon when they found a female in an inflatable raft being blown into the bay by a strong off-shore breeze.

"The further she was getting pushed out, the stronger the winds were getting. She had no life jacket, no safety equipment, not even a phone to call for help," police said on Facebook. "She had fallen asleep while floating in the raft near shore and was being blown out before she realized where she was. When the marine unit was approaching, she was trying to paddle back with her arms, but the wind was too strong."

The woman was rescued by the marine unit, taken back to shore where she was charged with failing to have personal flotation device.
