Wrong Way Driving Cases Up This Year

Two deaths in five collisions in October

Too many wayward souls on our roads says the OPP.

There have been 207 wrong way incidents on OPP-patrolled roads this year – up from 182 for all of last year.

From October 5 to November 5 there were 25 such cases resulting in five collisions and two deaths. Impaired driving charges were laid in two of those instances.

When drivers encounter a vehicle travelling the wrong way towards oncoming traffic, they should immediately and safely pull over to the side of the road, call 911 and provide their location, a description of the vehicle and the licence plate number if possible.

The OPP reminds drivers to pay full attention to the road and observe all directional signage, especially when driving on busy, multi-lane highways.
