Your Guide To St. Patrick’s Day In Barrie

I-rish Everyday Was This Fun

T’is the season for Celtic music, Guinness beer, Irish car bombs, and green everything! It’s almost St. Patrick’s Day and with that comes celebrations across Barrie.

Held on March 17th, marking the death of Ireland’s foremost patron saint, St. Patrick’s Day is a celebration of the countries heritage and culture.

What started off as (and, in its country of origin, still mostly continues to be) a religious observation has evolved into a cultural celebration that has migrated from the United Kingdom all the way to parts of Asia, Europe, and North America. In fact, it’s the most widely celebrated national festival in the world.

Here, in Canada, it’s no secret that we love St Patrick’s Day. All over the country, we celebrate every year in their own way. Montreal, who’s flag includes it’s very own shamrock, hosts one of the largest and longest-running St. Patrick’s Day parades in North America. The Toronto Maple Leafs, formally known as the Toronto St. Patricks from 1919 to 1927, don their traditional green jerseys when they play on March 17th. In Newfoundland and Labrador, it is even a full-blown public holiday.
