
An incident at the Innisfil Santa Claus parade has resulted in a charge of dangerous operation against a 53-year-old woman that York Regional Police confirmed is a staff sergeant with their service.
According to a media release from South Simcoe Police (SSP) on Tuesday, Nov. 25, the alleged incident occurred on Nov. 23 between 2:20 and 2:35 p.m. in the Sobey's parking lot, where a grey Audi SUV was denied access to the parade route.
"The vehicle was afterwards observed driving in the Shoppers Drug Mart/Scotiabank plaza on Innisfil Beach Road. When the driver was unable to exit the lot due to the parade route, the vehicle jumped a curb and drove through a pedestrian catwalk/trail south of the plaza to leave the area, exiting onto Jans Boulevard," SSP stated in the Nov. 25 news release.
No injuries were reported.
SSP confirmed to Barrie 360 on Tuesday that a suspect from Innisfil has been charged.
In an email to Barrie 360, YRP said that all inquiries regarding the investigation will need to be directed to South Simcoe Police.
"Any internal disciplinary action would be secondary to the ongoing investigation and would occur after its conclusion," said YRP Const. James Dickson
The accused has a court date on Jan. 15.
