Zac Efron says the body he had when he starred in "Baywatch" is not attainable.
The 34-year-old says he suffered from depression, insomnia, and other health issues after getting into crazy, shredded shape for the 2017 film.
An interview with "Men's Health Magazine" revealed he was taking powerful diuretics, overtraining, and not getting enough sleep while filming. He also ate the same three meals every day.
Efron says the Baywatch look is unrealistic. "There's just too little water in the skin. Like, it's fake; it looks CGI'd." he says.
Efron wants to draw attention to what kind of side effects that kind of training regimen can have on the body.
"Something about that experience burned me out. I had a really hard time recentering. Ultimately they chalked it up to taking way too many diuretics for way too long, and it messed something up."
He's in a better space now with his body and workouts, having found a more sustainable way of doing things. He focused on yoga, stretching, and strength training during the pandemic.
