11-year-old boy dies in hospital after falling through ice on a pond in Milton
OPP send out their own alert about the dangers of thin ice
An 11-year-old boy who was pulled from an icy pond in Milton on Saturday afternoon has died in hospital.
Halton Regional Police say two boys ventured onto ice at a storm management pond and fell through into the frigid water.
One youngster was able to get himself out of the water after trying to help the other boy, according to police. The child ran to a neighbours for help.
First responders spent 15 minutes searching the pond before locating the boy.
Police say the child died in hospital around 4 p.m.
Police have asked that the boy’s family be granted privacy at this time.
The public is being urged to stay off the ice on all bodies of water.

Southern Georgian Bay OPP tweeted pictures on Saturday of dangerous ice conditions across Penetang Bay, alerting the public that ice is “very thin and very unsafe!”
