12 Things to Do in The Barrie Area This Weekend

1. Barrielicious

Barrie's most exciting food festival celebrating local restaurants and chefs kicks off this Friday, January 18th.

For two weeks over 50 restaurants across the city will feature limited time menus with full course meals ranging from $15-$30 (plus tax and refreshments).

The Farmhouse is just one of many restaurants participating in Barrielicious.

2. Theatre For Babies

This interactive show is a great activity for all the Mamas looking for reasons to get out with their little ones. Five Points Theatre will be hosting One Thing Leads To Another, a unique presentation designed to engage parents and babies aged 3-12 months.

The show will take place January 19th at 1 pm & 3:30 pm, as well as January 20th at 10 am & 12:30 pm. Tickets are just $10 plust HST.

3. Family Tubing Day at Horseshoe Resort

Friday, January 18th, from 4 pm-9 pm, Horseshoe Resort is hosting a Family Snow Tubing Night in support of Seasons Centre For Grieving Children.

"All-thrill, no-skill"! Snow tubing is an activity that can be enjoyed with the whole family. Shoot down the hill solo or link up with others and fly down as a group.

$8/ ride, $25/5 rides, $50/10 rides, $75/15 rides or buy an unlimited pass/person for $35.

4. Guided Snowshoe and Chili Cookout at Snow Valley

This Saturday January 19th is just 1 of 3 dates left for your chance to participate in Snow Valley's Guided Snowshoe and Chili Cookout.

The event, held from 6 pm-8 pm, will include a guided snowshoe through winter wonderland trails followed by homemade chili, local craft beverages, s’mores and more by the campfire.

Tickets are $49.99/adult and $29.99/youth under 16.

5. Fundraiser for Wyatt's Warrior's

If you are not yet familiar with "Wyatt's Warriors" and how one boy, his family and community are fighting back against cancer, click here.

If you're inspired by this story and looking for a way to get involved we've got a great option for you. The Last Shot Bar and Grill, located just outside of Barrie in Thornton, is hosting a fundraising event this Saturday from 5 pm-12 am for Wyatt Delage.

For every customer that spends $20 or more during the fundraiser, the restaurant will give $10 towards Wyatt's Warriors and the Delage family. There will also be live music, a silent auction and draws for some great prizes.

6. Wake Up Dancing

Lakeside Dance is hosting a fantastic event this weekend to kick start your day in the best way. "Wake Up Dancing" is a class for ladies filled with fun Latin dance routines, stretching, cardio and resistance training.

After your exciting workout, relax and enjoy a light brunch together.

The event runs Saturday, January 19th from 9:30 am-11:30 am. Registration must be submitted by tonight, January 16th. Tickets are $20. Call 705-770-8184 to secure your spot.

7. Family Friendly Games Night

Family fun for free! Creating Connection Barrie is hosting a family friendly games night for all ages with a variety of board games. Popcorn, sweets and beverages will be available for a donation to Goodwill.

Play a favourite game or try a new one! Guests are encouraged to bring friends. Everyone is welcome.

8. Shaun Majumder's "Hate Tour"

On January 19th Talk Is Free Theatre will bring Shaun Majumder to Georgian College for his Hate Tour. Majumder is a popular comedian well known for his spot on the satirical TV show This Hour Has 22 Minutes. Artistic producer of TIFT, Arkady Spivak, is excited about this featured performer and anticipates a full crowd.

Tickets are available at $55 for pod seating, $70 for orchestra seating and $150 for VIP seating including a 3-course pre-performance meal.

9. Georgian Basketball Game

Support the Georgian Grizzlies Men's and Women's basketball teams this weekend in an exciting double-header. Women play the St.Lawrence Vikings at 1 pm and men take on the Fleming Knights at 3 pm.

10. Emerson Drive at The Ranch

In case you missed it, Emerson Drive will be performing live in Barrie this Friday at The Ranch. The concert will also feature an increasingly popular local act- Robb Watt's Band.

11. The Barrie Women's Show

Ladies you've got to make time for this one! The Women’s Show, taking place at Garden Gallery, will feature over 100 exhibitors for all things beauty, health & wellness, fashion, jewelry, design, food, fitness and more.

Ladies will be provided with the chance to browse, shop, meet industry experts and get inspired to improve their homes and lifestyles. There will also be a number of shows scheduled throughout the weekend including fashions shows, fitness demos and featured speakers.

12. Simcoe County Museum Skating Trail

The Simcoe County Museum skating trail will be open this weekend January 19th & 20th from 11 am-4 pm. It's a beautiful place to get outside and enjoy the day.

Admission to the museum is included with admission to the skate trail. $10 for ages 25+, $8 for ages 4-24 and kids 3 and under are FREE.
