8 Things to Do in the Barrie Area This Weekend

There’s another fun-filled weekend coming up for the city of Barrie. Remember to slow down and take some time to enjoy yourself during this busy holiday season. Here are some suggestions for the weekend ahead!

1. First Light

On November 29th-December 1st and December 6th-8th from 5:30-9:00, Sainte-Marie Among the Hurons lights up with 5000 candles for their annual First Light event.

There will be a number of candlelit paths all across the historic site that visitors can walk along to a variety of family activities including hands-on crafts, historic demonstrations and music. It’s a beautiful sight to see with plenty to do for the whole family.

There will also be 40 artisans in the Sainte-Marie museum, making it easy to check off some Christmas shopping while you’re there.

Admission is $10 per person with a donation of a non-perishable item. Kids under 5 are free.

Music at First Light can include: Native drumming and singing, lively Franco-Ontarian folk songs, and community and school choirs.

2. Homestead Artisan Bakery and Cafe Holiday Open House

This Saturday from 9 am-3 pm you can drop in at Homestead for all sorts of holiday fun. The first 50 customers will receive a free gift or discount off their purchase.

From 10 am-1 pm there will be live holiday carols. From 12 pm-2 pm Cabin Calligraphy will be on site decorating ornaments. From 10 am-3 pm kids will be able to decorate an ornamental gingerbread cookie for your Christmas Tree.

Homestead will also be collecting toys for the children of Sick Kids Hospital. (No plush, wrapped, or open toys.)

Ornaments will be priced accordingly.

3. Victorian Christmas Tea and Bazaar

Inniswood Church Hall is hosting their 10th annual Victorian Christmas Tea and Sale this Saturday from 9 am-2:30 pm. Guests will have the chance to browse “The Shoppes in the Village Square” including The Bakery, Cannery, Jewelers, Apothecary, Woodworkers, Collectibles, Stained Glass and more! There will be no commercial vendors.

Tea will be served in Victoria’s Tea Room along with scones, sandwiches, shortbread and sweets. Admission is $8 or 2 for $15. Kids are $5. Gluten-Free and Dairy-Free options are available upon request.

4. Kids Kringle

This Friday from 5 pm-8 pm Glama Gal Spa will be hosting an event that will include a manicure station and snowflake slime station. Both stations will cost $5, plus a donation of a non-perishable food item to participate. Its a fun-filled event for kids and a great way to involve them in giving back.

The hosts of the event have a goal of at least 500 lbs of food to be donated to the Food Drive.

Younger ones can enjoy getting pampered for just $5 and a donation.

5. DIY Soap Making

Mountain Momma Collective and The Camphill Store are hosting a soap making workshop this Friday from 7 pm-9 pm.

Guests will be able to make and take home 5 bars of soap (1 scent). These all natural and handmade soaps could make great gifts for Christmas. The class is open to anyone 14 years and older. For tickets and more info click here.

6. Donaleighs Christmas Market

There will be a Christmas Market this Sunday from 11 am-3 pm at one of Barrie’s favourite restaurants. Enjoy a relaxing Sunday at Donaleighs for a delicious meal and casual shopping, all in one place. All featured vendors are local and will include things like women’s fashion, decor, candles, handmade jewelry, yoga wear and more!

Donaleighs will also be accepting donations to the Food Bank.

Don’t forget to try something off the new Winter Menu while you’re there. It’s only here for a limited time.

7. Redline Christmas Artisan Market

Redline Brewhouse will also be hosting a Christmas Artisan Market this weekend. The event is on Sunday from 11 am-4 pm.

Local vendors will be set up in the upstairs loft that over looks the brewery. Great food and craft beers will be available while you shop in this unique venue.

A new seasonal brew will be available starting this Friday called Winter Solstice.

8. Live Music at The Foxx Lounge

The Foxx Lounge is hosting concerts all weekend featuring amazing local bands. Every event is 19+ and cover is between $5-$10. Multiple bands will be featured at every concert from Friday-Sunday. Mix things up this weekend by checking out our local talent.
