Infinity Arts Productions Brings Local Black History to the Georgian Theatre Stage with “Oro’s Promise”
BARRIE, ON March 4, 2026 - Infinity Arts Productions (IPAS) will present an original full-scale musical for the second time at the Georgian Theatre - marking another significant milestone for the local studio and a powerful moment for Simcoe County storytelling. The show opens to the public Friday March 6, 2026 at 7:00 PM and Saturday March 7, 2026 at 2:00 PM & 7:00 PM.
“Oro’s Promise: Lost Heroes of Oro Part Two” continues the journey that began with the studio’s successful original production, Lost Heroes of Oro in 2022. This second chapter brings audiences back to the 1840s and into the heart of Oro Township’s Black settlement history - told through the eyes of a child.
Set during the Underground Railroad, the musical follows ten-year-old Amara and her family as they flee slavery in the United States and seek freedom in Oro Township. While Canada represents hope, the reality is far more complex: brutal winters, food scarcity, and prejudice that does not end at the border. When Amara forms an unlikely friendship with a white settler girl, Betty-Lynn, the story explores courage, community, and the deeper meaning of freedom from a child’s point of view.
The production highlights a vital chapter of Oro-Medonte and Simcoe County history — including the building of the historic African Episcopal Church — and brings that legacy to life for a new generation.
“This story belongs here,” says Alinka Angelova, Owner of Infinity Arts Productions. “Oro’s Black history is part of our shared heritage in Simcoe County. Presenting it on the Georgian Theatre stage elevates these stories to the level they deserve.”
The production features a unique collaboration of professional talent including its young lead actor from New Brunswick in the role of Amara. Also featuring local student performers from Barrie’s Infinity Performing Arts Studio.
Written, directed, and produced by Alinka Angelova, with musical arrangements by Robert Chambers, the show meets professional theatre standards creating a production that is both educational and artistically ambitious.
In addition to public performances, the show will welcome schools from across the region for daytime performances, offering students a powerful opportunity to experience local history through live theatre.
Tickets for public performances are available through TicketPro. https://tprocob.ticketpro.ca/en/pages/1663625008?aff=cob. Community members are encouraged to attend and support this locally produced musical that honours the rich and often under-told history of Oro-Medonte and Simcoe County.
