A secondary school in Midland was placed into lockdown Tuesday morning after OPP say they received reports that a student had been spotted walking into the building with what appeared to be a firearm.
Upon reviewing surveillance footage, it was found that the student in question was in fact carrying a firearm-shaped object. Police were contacted and the school was put into lockdown as officers responded.
Southern Georgian Bay OPP arrived at Georgian Bay District Secondary School around 11:30 a.m., where the student was eventually located and taken into custody.
As a result, officers discovered the student to be in possession of a water pistol that resembled a Sig Sauer handgun.
The investigation is ongoing, and the identities of the individuals involved will not be released due to legal provisions contained within the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
The lockdown was lifted at around 11:45 a.m. and all school occupants have been reported as safe.
OPP would like to thank the school staff and students for their cooperation during this incident.
