Midland traffic stop leads to drug, gun seizure, impaired driving charges

A traffic stop by provincial police in Midland on Saturday resulted in multiple charges against a 56-year-old man.

This started around 1:15 a.m., when police noticed a vehicle being driven erratically on Highway 12 near William Street, including crossing into the opposite lane and briefly leaving the road. Police conducted a traffic stop on William Street near Pillsbury Drive.

During the investigation, police say the driver showed signs of impairment. Officers also seized suspected cocaine, Canadian cash, drug paraphernalia, and a restricted firearm.

The suspect, who is from Midland, was charged with impaired driving, obstructing a peace officer, possession of drugs for trafficking, and several firearm offences, including two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a probation order.

The accused was held for a bail hearing.
