News release - Town of Innisfil

The Town of Innisfil is thrilled to announce the opening of a permanent dog beach at Innisfil Beach park. Starting Friday, residents and visitors can bring their furry friends to enjoy the sun, sand, and waves at the new off-leash area at Beach 6.

The permanent dog beach is the result of community feedback gathered through the “Dog Days of Summer” pilot project, which saw the temporary installation of a dog beach at Innisfil Beach Park in 2022. Following the project, community members expressed interest in making the amenity a permanent fixture of the park as well as having opportunities for off-leash use. The new beach area features a fully fenced-in off-leash area, dog waste disposal bag stations, waste receptacles, and signage.

"We are excited to provide a dedicated space for our residents to enjoy the beach and the water with their four-legged friends," says Mayor Lynn Dollin. "The permanent dog beach will allow residents to spend quality time with their pets in a safe and controlled environment while enhancing the overall experience of all park visitors. We encourage all dog owners to come out and enjoy this new amenity.”

The dog beach is located at the far north end of Innisfil Beach Park near the entrance from Crystal Beach Road. Though Beach 1 accommodated the original temporary dog beach, Beach 6 was ultimately selected as the permanent site due to its minimal use and sufficient space for a fully fenced-in area.

Dog owners are reminded to be responsible and respectful when visiting the park. Please ensure your dog is under control at all times and help keep the beach clean by using the provided waste disposal stations. Enforcement staff will continue to monitor Town parks, with an increased presence throughout the summer, to ensure dogs are leashed and not in beach areas outside the designated Beach 6 location.

The Town of Innisfil is committed to creating more opportunities for residents and visitors to enjoy the outdoors through access to diverse recreational activities. The launch of the permanent dog beach is just one of the many initiatives the Town has planned to make Innisfil a more livable and enjoyable community for all.

The dog beach is open seven days a week during park hours. For more information on the Innisfil Beach Park dog beach, visit innisfil.ca/InnisfilBeachPark.
