Provincial police are advising the public that the Barrie-Collingwood Railway Active Recreation Trail (BCRY) is only designated for non-motorized recreational use.

Nottawasaga OPP say the trail is intended for activities such as walking, running, cycling, and other non-motorized uses. Horseback riding and use of motorized vehicles like ATVs, dirt bikes are prohibited unless explicitly authorized.

Signage is posted at trail access points noting that use of motorized vehicles has increased safety risks for pedestrians and cyclists and has caused disturbances for nearby residents.

Recreational users are also expected to pick up after their pets and dispose of any litter in an effort to maintain the trail.

Police say they will be increasing monitoring and enforcement efforts along the trail and those found in violation of trail restrictions may be subject to fines or charges.

The BCRY stretches over 33 kilometres between Angus and Collingwood following the former Barrie-Collingwood Railway line. In the spring, it was officially extended by 23 kilometres.
