Barrie Police credit 911 calls from the public that alerted them to a suspected drunk driver.
Just after midnight on Friday, police say they received several 911 calls from people reporting a vehicle travelling at various speeds, nearly hitting guardrails and almost side-swiping another vehicle.
Officers spotted the vehicle travelling westbound on Mapleview Drive East near the Highway 400 bridge at a high rate of speed. A traffic stop was conducted, and while speaking with the driver, officers noticed his glossy, bloodshot eyes and slow movements.

"The driver advised the officers he had consumed “a lot” of alcohol before correcting himself to say, “a little bit," police said in a news release.
At police headquarters, a breath test showed the motorist was more than twice the legal limit.
A 33-year-old Vaughan man was charged with impaired operation over 80. His licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
"Barrie Police thank the members of the public who called to report this dangerous driving behaviour. Those calls allowed officers to quickly locate the vehicle and remove an impaired driver from the road before anyone was seriously injured," the news release said.
