Former board chair of Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH) Mary Silverthorn was appointed as the president and CEO of the hospital on Tuesday.
Silverthorn served the hospital both as its board chair nearly two decades ago, and had a dual role across OSMH and Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare (MAHC) as integrated vice-president, human resources. Most recently, she's been serving as a vice president at MAHC.
“To be entrusted to lead this hospital in my hometown community that I hold so dear is both a privilege and a profound responsibility that is incredibly meaningful to me,” Silverthorn said in a release.
She's most known for having served 11 years with the OPP as the provincial commander of Corporate Services Command. In that role, she oversaw human resources, finance, training, and operational areas, managing over 550 personnel.
“Mary’s leadership credentials are exceptionally well aligned with OSMH’s future priorities,” OSMH board chair Terri McKinnon said in a release.
“Mary has led complex transformational initiatives, overseen budgets exceeding $1 billion, and successfully advanced major redevelopment projects. Her experience navigating government, funding, and stakeholder environments positions her to lead OSMH with confidence through its redevelopment journey and continued growth.”
Silverthorn will take over on Sept. 8 for Carmine Stumpo, who stepped down from the positions on Apr. 2 to assume a similar position with Mackenzie Health. Tom Roberts will serve in the interim.
