An outdoor automated external defibrillator (AED) has been installed at Fennell's Corner Park in Innisfil, creating around-the-clock access to a potentially lifesaving tool while honouring the memory of a beloved local baseball player and community member.
Community charity 38Hands unveilled the outdoor SaveStation AED during a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday evening at the park, where the device has been installed near the ball diamond. The AED is dedicated to Tony “Rockstar” Fortier, who captained a team in the Gilford 3-Pitch Baseball League and played on the same field that continues to host league games today.
Fortier's sudden death from cardiac arrest left a lasting impact on a close-knit group of friends who would later formalize their support network into what is now 38Hands.
His passing became a powerful reminder of the importance of having lifesaving equipment readily available in public spaces.
A Legacy That Could Save Lives
"Tony brought the ‘Rockstar’ spirit to this diamond every week; now his legacy helps protect the hearts of every player who follows," said Bryan Phillips, Board Chair, 38Hands. "Together, we're supporting our community in a practical, meaningful way that could make a real difference in a cardiac emergency."
By placing the defibrillator at a location that held special meaning to him, the organization hopes to strengthen public access to emergency cardiac care and raise awareness about heart health.

The installation provides year-round, 24/7 public access to a defibrillator, giving park users, athletes and visitors immediate access to critical emergency equipment when every second counts.
