Kevin Weaver will be the top dog at Georgian College for at least another five years.
The institution's Board of Governors announced on Wednesday it had unanimously renewed his the president and CEO's contract, extending to March 31, 2032.
Weaver was initially hired as Georgian's president and CEO in 2022 for a five-year term after joining the college in 2014 as the dean of technology and visual arts before serving as the vice-president of international workforce development and partnerships, and later the academic vice-president.
“Georgian’s Board of Governors is impressed by Kevin’s leadership and steadfast dedication to students, employees, partners and the communities we serve,” outgoing board chair Kimberley Greenwood said in a news release. “He’s guided the college through immense complexity and change and we’re confident in his ability to continue to lead as we meet game-changing commitments outlined in our strategic plan, ensure the college’s long-term success and sustainability, and expand Georgian’s impact.”
In his first term leading the college, Weaver's achievements includes Georgian partnering with four other Ontario postsecondary institutions to establish the Canadian Energy Workforce Consortium, growing the college’s skilled trades building and Centre for Industrial Simulation and Prototyping, and graduation of the inaugural class of the college’s Honours Bachelor of Science – Nursing program.
"These valued partnerships with community, industry and government ensure our students flourish, our graduates are future-ready, and our regional employers have access to a dynamic talent pipeline to meet current and anticipated workforce needs,” incoming board chair Carolyn McGoey Garvey said in a release.
Weaver holds a Master of Science from the University of Toronto, Honours Bachelor of Arts from Wilfrid Laurier University, and postgraduate certificate from Fleming College.
