An OPP constable from Gravenhurst was charged with two separate firearm offences on Monday by the service's Professional Standards Unit (PSU).
The charges stem from a training exercise on May 7 in which he fired a firearm when it was neither required nor authorized.
The 34-year-old officer was arrested and charged with careless use of a firearm, and the reckless discharge of a firearm.
He is currently suspended from duty with pay and scheduled in an Orillia court on Oct. 13.
