A four-month investigation by the Barrie Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE) has resulted in charges against a 24-year-old man.

Police say the investigation began when the ICE Unit received a report from the National Centre of Missing and Exploited Children concerning the upload of child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

In June, police executed a search warrant at a residence in east Barrie. The suspect was not at the address. A second search warrant was obtained on July 30 for an address in the west end of the city, and police say that is where they located the accused.

Officers also seized an electronic mobile device for forensic analysis, which investigators say resulted in the categorization of images and videos of child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

The suspect was arrested on Wednesday and charged with possession and accessing child sexual abuse and exploitation material.
