Tornado? Not in Barrie.

Environment Canada says a preliminary investigation suggests there is nothing to indicate a tornado touched down in the Barrie area late Thursday afternoon.

Meteorologist Daniel Liotta told Barrie 360 while there are hints of twisters in parts of southwestern Ontario yesterday, there is nothing in the images and video they have seen to suggest one touched down here. Those images show what appear to be funnel clouds, or the makings of them, but none has met the criteria.

And the storm damage reported, he says, has not been consistent with a tornado.

Trees were blown over in some neighbourhoods in north Barrie — some fell across power lines, knocking out electricity for a few hours.

Rainfall amounts in and around Barrie vary between 20 and 40 millimetres

There are no reports of any injuries.
