An Oro-Medonte volunteer firefighter is putting his endurance to the test this weekend, embarking on a 100-mile run across the township to raise funds for a new emergency response vehicle.
Tyler Marchand of Oro-Medonte Fire & Emergency Services (OMFES) began his fundraising run at 6 a.m. Saturday from Fire Station #1 on Line 3 North. Over the course of two days, Marchand will travel between fire stations throughout the township, covering 100 miles in an effort to raise more than $60,000 for a new utility terrain vehicle (UTV) for the department.
The specialized vehicle would help firefighters and emergency responders reach people in locations that may be difficult to access with traditional emergency apparatus.

Marchand's route takes him across Oro-Medonte on Oct. 17 and 18, with supporters encouraged to follow along and contribute to the fundraising effort through his online campaign.
The challenge will culminate with Marchand completing the final mile in full firefighter bunker gear, adding an extra layer of difficulty to an already demanding feat.
The fundraiser highlights the commitment of Oro-Medonte's volunteer firefighters, who not only respond to emergencies in the community but are also working to secure equipment that can enhance emergency response capabilities.
Donations toward the UTV purchase can be made through Marchand's GoFundMe campaign. Organizers hope the effort will generate enough support to meet or exceed the $60,000 fundraising goal.
