Huronia West OPP say they have laid more than 250 charges over the first two days of the Labour Day weekend.
"Preliminary numbers show that on Friday, September 1, police laid approximately 97 charges and on Saturday, September 2, another 160 charges were laid. Some of the charges include speeding, licence plate violations, vehicle tire violations and driver's licence offences," police said in a news release on Sunday. "Multiple vehicles have been impounded and several R.I.D.E programs have been conducted."
Charges also included nine for suspended drivers and six for improper mufflers.
Police say multiple charges were laid under the Liquor Licence and Control Act. As well, one motorist was charged with impaired operation by drug.
"The OPP would like to also remind anyone that chooses to drive dangerously or commit criminal acts, that we will continue to investigate after this weekend. They may still face charges following this weekend," the release stated.
"All residents and visitors should continue to expect to see a heightened police presence in the Town of Wasaga Beach, Springwater and Clearview Townships, as well as all the surrounding areas that the OPP polices."
