It'll be a day filled with education, empowerment and confidence as women all over Simcoe County gather for the Mother-Daughter Empower Conference.
The event is being held at the IDEA Lab and library in Innisfil on September 24th, as women are encouraged to bring their daughters who are 7 yrs and older.
In 2019, Tara Filteau and her daughter Sophia Ghafoori founded Mother Daughter Empower ,a registered Canadian charitable organization that helps women and girls reach their full potential.
Tara says something drastic happens to a young girl's confidence as she reaches her teen years.
"At age 7, boys' and girls' confidence will be the same, but by age 14, a girl's confidence will decrease by 30% compared to boys of the same age. She says. "And we want to see a change in that stat for the next generation."
Tara says getting positive messages to young girls is vital at a young age and hopes this conference helps in that mission.
" I love going to women empowerment conferences and awards, but I couldn't find anything I could bring Sophia with me. So when we started this, Sophia was just seven years old. And we were eager to welcome all women and girls."
Fast forward years later and the mother-daughter duo have made a great team, uniting mothers and daughters to have a fun-filled day by growing stronger.
Tara adds that this is for all women; you don't need a daughter to join in, as it's about empowerment.
One of the panels includes "Who runs the world," which focuses on women running the world and paving the way in male-dominated professions.
Another is "Body Positivity," which focuses on the impact & effects that social media has on women and girls and offers valuable tips and tools for building body positivity and confidence.
The Mother Daughter Empower Conference takes place Sunday, September 24 from 11 AM- 3 PM at the Innisfil ideaLAB & Library.
