A teenage boy is up on numerous charges after leading Barrie Police on a wild ride through parts of the city in a stolen Porsche.

Just after 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, officers responded to a residential alarm on Camelot Square, in the area of Big Bay Point Road and Hurst Drive.

Police discovered a broken window and determined the person responsible had left the home prior to their arrival and that a set of keys to a parked car were stolen.

Then around 2:30 Thursday morning, police were told the vehicle that was parked in the driveway where the home was broken into was in the process of being stolen.

"Police observed the stolen vehicle on a number of occasions in southeast Barrie and made attempts to stop it but were unsuccessful," police said in a news release on Thursday.

Not too long after, the vehicle appeared again, and another attempt was made to stop it, but police say the driver travelled through a farm field towards the southbound lanes of Highway 400. The car eventually broke down, and a 16-year-old was taken into custody.

He been charged with the following:

  • break and enter
  • dangerous operation of a vehicle
  • flight from police (2 counts)
  • fail to remain
  • theft over $5,000
  • assault with a weapon
  • fail to stop after an accident
  • possession of property obtained by crime
  • driving without a licence

The youth was held in custody for a video link bail hearing that was to take place Thursday afternoon.
