Woman sent to hospital after apartment fire

Apartment fire

Fire officials say a woman was sent to hospital after a fire at an apartment complex in downtown Barrie Saturday morning.

Derek Wilson, deputy fire chief for Barrie Fire and Emergency Service, told Barrie 360 they were called to 18 Sophia Street East around 7:15 a.m.

He says the fire was contained to a single unit, with only smoke entering the hallway.

Wilson says a woman in her 50s was transported to RVH for unknown injuries.

He says the cause of the fire is not known at this time as an investigation is being conducted, and the Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) has been called.

Wilson added that alternative housing has been arranged for residents who are unable to return to their units - as part of the investigation.
