Barrie Police

A 31-year-old man was arrested and a Bobcat skid-steer loader was recovered following a morning theft in Barrie's south end.

Police say they were contacted at 6:33 a.m. about the stolen piece of machinery in the Veterans Drive and Salem Road area.

"Within 12 minutes, police were on scene and speaking with the complainant," officers wrote in a release.

"A short time later, the person responsible for the theft was observed exiting an open field and was approached by police. After a brief conversation, he was arrested for Theft and Possession of Stolen Property over $5,000 and transported to Barrie Police Headquarters where the investigation continued."

A Barrie man of no fixed address was held in custody and is scheduled for a bail hearing this afternoon.
