Innisfil is taking a step in their efforts to reduce their corporate carbon footprint and greenhouse gasses by announcing their first electric vehicle (EV) in their fleet.
A new fleet management policy was approved by council in late 2023. The policy prioritizes alternative fuel-use vehicles for new and replacement vehicles.
“Electrifying the Town’s fleet and equipment where feasible is an important part of making our operations more sustainable,” says Innisfil Mayor, Lynn Dollin.
The policy not only aims at reducing local air pollution, emissions and fuel consumption but also reducing maintenance costs. Innisfil acquired a Ford F-150 Lightning EV and a Dodge Hornet plug-in-hybrid to test out the performance of the vehicles and their suitability.
“As leaders in our community, we continue to find efficient ways to deliver programs and services while adapting to and mitigating the impacts of climate change,” said Dollin.
The Ford Lightning is currently in action doing the tasks its gas powered ½ ton counterpart would. Some of its tasks include garbage and debris collection, horticulture activities and road patrol.
Meanwhile the Dodge Hornet is expected to be in action later this year when it will be tested by Innisfil’s Community Development and Standards Branch. Some of the services include building inspections and municipal law enforcement.
